“mayday” adalah ungkapan seruan yang dilontarkan oleh pilot pesawat terbang atau nakoda kapal saat melaporkan keadaan mereka yang mengalami bahaya maut (kecelakaan). Namun selain itu “mayday” adalah juga satu istilah dalam peringatan Hari buruh sedunia yaitu tanggal 1 May sebagai penggambaran nasib kaum buruh yang terjepit dalam bahaya ekonomi. Mereka terhimpit dan terhempas.
Namun, seruan mereka minta tolong acapkali tidak didengar atau sengaja diabaikan.
- Kaum buruh acapkali berada pada posisi paling rendah yang disebabkan oleh sifat birokrasi industri.
- Kaum buruh juga berada di bagian terbawah dari sebuah hirarki wewenang.
- Kaum buruh berada di ujung sebuah rantai komunikasi dan perintah.
- Kaum buruh selalu berada sebagai kaum awam yang diperintah atau dikelola oleh sebuah hirarki birokratis.
